Someone mentioned the artist Giacometti, who I didn't know much about. Always liked his statues but didn't know who did them. Heve been researching. He was friends with Sartre.
(http://www.artchive.com/artchive/G/giacometti.html) he tried to draw and create figurative pieces, but they all came out too small, or too long even when people showed him how they should look he couldn't force himself to change the way they came out. He was with the surrealists, but he changed his style and the movement abandoned him, so rather than lie and create things he was no longer interested in, he left all his friends and did his own thing.
Also encouraged to look at Empirical Observation, but havn't had much luck researching it. Can't find what the guy was talking about, only a lot about science (unless that's what it is).
