John Hopkins and Grenville Davey - All Flesh is Grass
text + work at the art institute gallery. Quite a big name. Departure from the usual, one artists work and someone else writing about said work. The 'text' part of the gallery ethos seems to be missing, with only a short interview in the information booklet (which is actually very nice and well constructed).
Recognised Davey's floor tiles (I assume it was him...) from the Tate modern, except that there the tiles were going through a door way, so people had to walk on them. Think it worked better there, as here people can just dodge around them and it is more deliberately sculptural. Didn't really understand the correlation with the sculptures and the architectural drawings. Seemed like two artists work smushed together. Don't really know why. Never feel the curation is particularly good in there. Always seems to be too much work, the audience is overloaded.
Think the information booklet was the best/most interesting thing about this exhibition, you don't really need to see it, just read that.
Found out that all of Davey's work has just been moved from Canary Wharf where it was called Little Emperor. What's the point of just shifting it about and re naming it. So so painfully dull. Like a singer on a six months tour. Dunno, guess that's just how it works. Context means absolutely nothing. How depressing.
